Centenary monument
Designed in 1896, the Centennial Monument was given a prime location in the heart of Nice, between the Promenade des Anglais and the Jardin Albert 1er.
Perched on a pyramid-shaped base is a winged Victory made entirely of bronze and proudly draped in a flag in the colors of France. She is represented there with an oath of loyalty alluding to the motto of the city of Nice: “Nissa fidelissima”. The monument bears the dates 1793 - 1893 and 1860 and commemorates the decree of the Convention promulgated on February 4, 1793, which decided on the annexation of the County of Nice to France and the creation of the department of Alpes Maritimes.
