The sculpture consists of nine 30m long beams that rest on one of its bases and meet at the top of the work. As the name suggests, these nine lines are slanted. The whole thing made of Corten steel weighs 75t and rests on a 130t concrete foundation.

It was installed in front of the Promenade des Anglais in 2010 to mark the 150th anniversary of the annexation of the County of Nice to France.
