At the height of the square-shaped widening of the Justus Lipsiusstraat and the Koning Leopold I-straat - at the site of the formerly planned "Brabantplein" - a statue of the humanist, Latinist and historian Justus Lipsius (Overijse 1547 - Leuven 1606), from 1592 professor at the University of Leuven.

The sculptor behind this statue of the Overijse-born humanist, philologist, historiographer and neo-stolic Justus Lipsius (real name Jodocus or Joost Lips) is Jules Jourdain. He started studying law in Leuven at the end of the nineteenth century but followed his passion, art. He also made socially engaged art and a series of war memorials after the First World War. Jourdain also made the war memorial of the municipality where I live, Tessenderlo.
