The mine was named after the Bavarian King Ludwig II. Until the coal crisis in 1958, operations at König Ludwig were largely trouble-free. The mine still made losses of DM 91 million. Of the 110 production facilities in the Ruhr area at the time, König Ludwig was in 102nd place. In 1965, it was therefore inevitably shut down. Source: ruhrzechenaus.de
