The Ewald-Fortsetzung spoil tip is located in the northern Ruhr area in Oer-Erkenschwick, precisely midway between the districts of Oer and Erkenschwick. In some reports, it is also referred to as the Oer-Erkenschwick spoil tip. It was only opened to the public in 2009. Gravel paths lead onto, or around, the entire spoil tip to its summit.

A special feature of the spoil tip is the "Green Classroom": Large stone blocks are arranged in a circle on a meadow and are known as a "green classroom." From the spoil tip, there is a beautiful view of Datteln, Oer-Erkenschwick, and the site of the former Ewald Fortsetzung coal mine, which still features a headframe.

To the north, the Haard hills form a very attractive landscape. The spoil tip is a "Green Place of Happiness" (as described in the book of the same name by Thomas Dörmann). Under the motto "go out & bloom", it offers 80 particularly beautiful spots in the Ruhr area: among the 80 destinations is the Ewald-Fortsetzung spoil heap. There are apparently considerations to extend the König Ludwig Trail to the Ewald Fortsetzung coal mine.

A small, beautiful slag heap that's perfect for walking and cycling. Unfortunately, climbing all the way to the top isn't worth it.

      It's completely overgrown.
