The artist Herman de Vries, whose signs and quotations about the nature of nature can be found in several places in the Steigerwald, says: "Nature doesn't need people, people need nature." The artist wrote this on a large block of sandstone, documented with the golden inscription "natura numquat errat" ("nature is never wrong"). The artist, who is now known worldwide, moved to Eschenau in the Steigerwald as a Dutch artist in the 1960s and has since then focused on nature.

The artist and philosopher herman de vries left “traces in the northern steigerwald”: golden words. So called because he carved succinct thoughts in stone and covered the letters with gold leaf. Corresponding boulders, i.e. boulders, can be found in the wide vicinity of de vries’ place of residence Eschenau (Hassberge district). On the occasion of his 75th birthday in 2006, he presented the inscribed stones to the people of the region. Most recently in 2019 he added “spur nr. 28" on the Euerberg near Fabrikschleichach: joy - according to the motto: Life is nourished by joy; without her it would be imperfect.
