Campo Santo Teutonico is a historic cemetery and complex of buildings in Vatican City, next to St. Peter's Basilica. It is the oldest national German institution in Rome and it is reserved for members of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the German Cemetery. The cemetery is located on the site of Nero's Circus in ancient times, where many Christian martyrs were killed. The cemetery has a church, a college, an institute and a library. The cemetery is also a sought-after burial place for many famous people, such as cardinals, diplomats, scholars and artists.
