The Plangemühle (Plange Mill) replaced a former windmill on this site. The oldest buildings still standing today date from 1904. The older silo buildings on the Rhine side were built in 1936/39. The newer silo towers date from the 1980s.

The mill was in operation until March 2018. During that time, visitors could witness grain shipments being unloaded via suction pipe at the Rhine pier.

Together with the adjoining district of Hochheide, Alt-Homberg formed the town of Homberg/Ndrh., which belonged to the district of Moers, until it was incorporated into the city of Duisburg in 1975.
