"Rhine and Ruhr. Without the meeting of these two rivers, Duisburg would probably not have come into being at all, more than a thousand years ago. There, where the Ruhr flows into the Rhine. The location then became even more important at the time of the industrialization of the Ruhr area. You made the Port of Duisburg the largest inland port in the world and it still is today. No wonder then that this place is of particular importance for the city and so the highly visible, 25 m high sculpture "Rheinorange" was erected here in 1992."
