A work of art in Middelburg that regularly causes great amusement is located in front of the Town Hall on De Markt. Here you will find a model of the town hall on a pedestal with two bronze chairs next to it. Just sit on one of the chairs and peer into the peephole. According to the text on the artwork, you can see 'the sewage system of the city from the VIIIth century'. Do you see the trickle of water flowing from the bottom of the chair? Where does that come from? The object, called 'Fountain', was designed by artist couple Ilya and Emilia Kabakov and puts a smile on the face of both children and adults.

Tip: The fountain only works in spring, summer and autumn due to frost in winter.
