Oetz, the centre of the front Ötztal, lies at the foot of the 3,008 m high Acherkogel, the northernmost three-thousand-metre peak in the Alps. The Ötztaler Ache river flows through the village and is ideal for water sports, which is why Oetz is often the venue for kayak championships.

The most popular excursion destination in summer is Lake Piburger See, which can be reached on a hike from the village.
