Mining used to be of great importance in the region, which today is part of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park. Here, on the north-west slope of the upper Schelde valley, there were many pits over a length of about 5 km. One of them is the “Beschertes Glück” opencast mine. Iron ore and pyrites were mined here in the 19th century.
