Bleistraße 4 (Former School), Stralsund

The listed old school is located at Bleistrasse 4 in Stralsund.
The three-story brick house was built in 1875 in the neo-Gothic style based on designs by Ernst von Haselberg. It was officially inaugurated on August 3, 1875.The main front faces St. Mary's Church. It shows a four-story part with a pointed arch portal and a three-story, five-axis part with high, three-part windows. The tracery windows on the second floor are closed with pointed arches, the windows on the ground floor and first floor are segmentally arched.
The upper end of the building is formed by a multi-story frieze.The house is located in the core area of the “Historic Old Towns of Stralsund and Wismar” urban area, which is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is listed as number 106 in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund.The house was initially used as a secondary school, from 1882 as a secondary school, from 1914 as a secondary school and from 1941 as a secondary school for boys; After the Second World War, the building housed a vocational school named after Karl Krull, which was renamed the “Vocational School for Crafts, Services and Industry” after 1990 and existed here until 2005. The "Alte Schule Senioren-WG" stands awe-inspiringly as an imposing building on Wolfgang-Heinze-Straße in Stralsund. The listed building, which celebrated its 100th birthday in October 2015, has a moving history: While it now houses 18 tenants in three senior living communities on three floors and intensive care in the attic, it was built as an elementary school in 1914/1915. During the First World War it served as a military hospital and was later used again as the Wolfgang-Heinze School.
