Especially in spring and summer it is a paradise for nature lovers with many less common and even rare plants and animals. You can read more about this at natuurpunt.be/natuurgebied/nietelbroeken But also those who simply love a beautiful piece of nature in all seasons without the details of the fauna and flora will get their money's worth here.

The open to semi-open landscape with species-rich grasslands alternates with deciduous forest and shrubs. The unique and extremely rare blue grasslands in the area make grass fans salivate. They owe their name to the bluish color due to the large presence of plant species such as blue knot, blue sedge and tooth grass. If you walk into the old forest, you can enjoy the colorful spring bloomers in the spring. Yellow dead-nettle, slender primrose and woodland violet provide a colorful touch. During this period, the photogenic forest is more than worthy of the name 'the fairytale forest'. The centuries-old trees are worth admiring in every season. In addition to an enormous diversity of rare grasses, spring bloomers and wild plants, Nietelbroeken is also a paradise for animals. With a bit of luck you might spot a deer in the forest. The hawk then looks for its favorite meal in the meadows: mice and hares. In the summer of 2013, an extremely unique discovery was made. A colony of no fewer than 84 extremely rare Bechstein's bats was counted as it fledged from a hollow tree. The more than a hundred different bird species on observations.be confirm once again how valuable this area is.
