  • The heart of the roach is the fountain of the robber knight Friedrich von Hattstein.
In 1353 he conquered the Eichelbacher Schloss (today's Eichelbacher Hof and also worth a trip!) Near Weilrod-Hasselbach - he surprised Siegfried von Reinberg at his wedding reception - and kept it occupied for four years. The Hattsteiner threatened and plundered travelers and merchants on the once busy section of the Rennstrasse between Bad Camberg, Hasselbach and Rod an der Weil. A chronicle says that "the road" was soon "quiet and deserted", "so that the grass grew like a good meadow". Likewise, the farmers in the surrounding villages were not spared. It was only in 1357 that Siegfried von Reinberg managed to recapture his property.
Johannistag in 1357. Friedrich von Hattstein left his domicile on the Eichelbacher Hof for a visit to Limburg. Scouts reported Siegfried von Rheinberg about this trip, so that he seized the opportunity to raid the Eichelbacher Hof with some allied knights and to put him under his rule again.
Friedrich von Hattstein was thus cut off, and there was no alternative but to become the city captain in Limburg, a city with strong trade. The former free knight took up civil service for 32 guilders annually and became governor of Limburg. The former robber knight is said to have secured the truckloads of dealers from thieves in Limburg.
According to legend, he was able to lift a full wine barrel and drink from the bunghole.
