Very nice view from the Lahn to the Limburg Cathedral. Be sure to visit the city center with its many half-timbered houses. The squares in the historic city center with the many cafés invite you to linger. Absolutely worth seeing!

To this day there is no exact date for the laying of the foundation stone of Limburg Cathedral. According to estimates, which are mainly based on the architectural style, construction begins at the end of the 12th century. But what is known today is that the inauguration definitely took place in 1235, and the construction phase lasted about 40 years. The inauguration was carried out by the Archbishop of Trier, Theoderich von Wied. Nicholas of Myra and St. George were the patron saints. The builder at that time is not known, but it is difficult to assume that the Limburg merchants contributed to a large extent.

According to current knowledge, the building as we know it today was erected in four construction phases. . The first construction phase included the western front, the southern aisle, the choir and the transept up to the gallery. In the following construction phase, the inner pillars were installed.

In the third construction phase, the southern nave gallery was built. The fourth construction phase included the north side of the transept and the choir gallery. The Gothic influence is most evident here, and also at its most beautiful.
