Waldgaststätte Sängerwiese

The Waldgaststätte Sängerwiese is a real institution. More than 100 years ago, it was established as a forester's lodge and even then guests were welcomed in the dining room. Today, everyone here on their hikes on the Rennsteig, on the Werra Castle Steig, through the dragon gorge and in the vicinity of the Wartburg rest and enjoy the peace of the forest and the Thuringian cuisine.

Between Drachenschlucht and Wartburg a quiet spot for a rest.

Nice rest stop not far from the Drachenschlucht. A detour here is worthwhile, also the way further to the Wartburg.

At the Gasthaus Sängerwiese there are lots of goodies waiting for the hiker. From here you can explore many destinations in the area. There are even a few places to stay.

A wonderful and historic place. In the days of the GDR, political, supposedly disruptive speeches were held here on "Ascension Day", much to the government's dismay.
Today it is still a cozy place in the middle of beautiful nature with a very nice host.
Now, Friday before Pentecost, everything was closed at the Wartburg. Here, however, the host had mercy.

Nice stopover between high sun, Drachenschlucht and Wartburg.
May be very crowded in summer or bank holidays.

Service was mega rude. Maybe Sow had only one bad day.
The food is good, vegetarian choice but very manageable.
