The Grugatrasse starts in Essen-Steele and leads from there on paved pedestrian / bike path, which mostly leads over an old railway line, in the direction of Essen center. The bike path takes you directly to Gruga, Essen's famous park with exhibition hall. From there you are super fast right in the center. If you follow the path, it will take you to the new RS1 Radschnellweg.

The total of nearly twelve kilometers long way is nice to drive, is only due to its course usually pretty crowded. Especially on the center-close section, he is often heavily frequented, there is also one or the other bottleneck. Still, a very nice inner-city bike lane that largely lets you forget that you're cycling right through a big city.

No detour, but an integral part of the cycling network Ruhrgebiet. The route connects the southern districts of Steele, Bergerhausen, Rüttenscheid, Margarethenhöhe and Fulerum in a comfortable, low gradient, varied and car-free way. Access to the Ruhr-Radweg in the east, RS1 in the west, GRuGA and Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum. In the section GRuGA entrance Steele asphalted, otherwise water-bound. Mostly located in the forest, solid gravel or asphalt, only a few really disturbing barriers or level jumps in the road, wide enough to go to the gas.
Nice long climb and rewarding descent from both directions. Bridges a good piece of food.
Connection to the Ruhrradweg and at a short distance also others.
    Makes me happy!

    Who would have thought that!
Even Wednesday mornings at 10 o'clock a popular destination for retiree trips, so set on daring overtaking maneuvers and missed warnings;)
Otherwise, as already written a good deal of city traffic bypass, possibly not driven with the highest tire pressure, can be bumpy.
    Cheers!

The Grugatrasse is a very good developed bike path. It is a lot of fun to use this.

The water-bound ceiling in the western section from Gruga Park entrance is reasonably filter-stable; therefore tolerably drivable even in wet conditions. The short section between the Gruga-Radweg and the Girardet-Haus (parking lot for fair / Gruga) in Rüttenscheid is always overcrowded, especially by pedestrians, who often do not feel like driving.

Small note: not all parts of the way are paved. Especially the part in the Grugapark is not paved, but "only" a gravel road, which is good to drive in dry weather (if you have no problems with smaller stones and some bumps). With appropriate material (bike> 4000 €), I would not necessarily drive the way, as I think that it is not very pleasant to drive in the wet.
