The Rumbach rises as the Ruhmbach in the Essen district of Haarzopf and flows into the Ruhr in Mülheim. In Essen and in the Mülheim district of Holthausen, the stream flows in its natural above-ground bed. Until the 19th century, the stream also ran above ground in what is now the city center, which often caused flooding, especially in the lower reaches. As the city center was relocated from the church hill down to the lowlands to the north, the Rumbach was completely channeled and relocated underground on its way through the city center. The stream flows underground from Walkmühlenstrasse onwards. The Rumbach once flowed into a canal (Fabricks Canal) parallel to the Ruhr, which is now filled in and forms Ruhrstrasse. Here it flowed for about 150 meters and only then flowed into the Ruhr. In the middle of the 20th century, the course was relocated directly to the Ruhr. Today, the Rumbach flows into the Ruhr promenade in the city harbor of Mülheim an der Ruhr, opposite the Mülheim town hall.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumbach_(Ruhr)

The Liebfrauenhof is a rustic garden restaurant with a cozy beer garden. Always worth a stop.
