The Teschenhöhle is the remains of a stone quarry from which basalt was extracted. This basalt formed a volcanic vent that was formed around 43 million years ago.

The only volcanic hole in the Spessart, which was later used as a quarry. Quiet and located in the middle of the forest, but easy to find thanks to the signs.

Nice hike sometimes on forest paths and sometimes on forest paths, cross-country over the Menzemühlweg into the Steinbachtal and past the Jahnfelsen to the Teschenhöhle. The only volcanic hole in the Spessart. 😊 When the time comes, it is also worth stopping at the forest festival, which you will pass on the last few meters of the way back. However, the forest festival only takes place on the May weekends.
