The ascent to Heidesheim's local hill (210 m) first passes the southwestern vineyards of this Rhenish-Hessian fruit and wine-growing community, then offers a magnificent view over the Rhine Valley, with Wiesbaden in the distance and as far as the Taunus Mountains. The "Kaiserpfalz" hiking trail leads along this path to Ingelheim. As a result of the Revolutionary Wars around 1800, the French temporarily held power here, and so they may have called the hill "Tete du Corbeau," our "Raven's Head"...

After Fort Muhl in Ebersheim, Fort Rabenkopf was the second largest fortress in Selzstellung. The building on the Rabenkopf was a special fortress that was only built once of its kind. It is designated on the plans as "ammunition room on the Rabenkopf with telegraph office for subsection Ia".
