The memorial is a bronze statue erected on July 6, 1858 for the Danish victory over Schleswig-Holstein in Fredericia on July 6, 1849. The sculptor was H. W. Bissen (1798-1868).
Unlike most monuments, this commemorates not the officers but the enlisted soldiers

The Brave Landsoldier Monument is one of Fredericia's most recognizable landmarks. It was erected in 1858 to commemorate the Danish victory in the Battle of Fredericia on July 6, 1849.

The statue, created by H.W. Bissen, is the first sculpture in the world dedicated to a private soldier. It depicts a Danish landsoldier with a rifle in one hand and a beech branch in the other—a symbol of victory. The statue is 3.75 meters tall and stands on a 2.5-meter-high granite pedestal, surrounded by captured mortars.

The monument is located on Landsoldier Square near the Prince's Port, where the Danish troops entered the city after their victory. Today, it is a central meeting place for events and commemorations, especially during the annual Fortress Days, which commemorate the events of 1849.
