A prehistoric hill fort is said to have once been where the modest chapel stands today. It is assumed that it was a sacrificial site of a forest god, the deus New Year's Eve. The Christian name St. Silvester was later derived from this assumption.

The Chapel of San Silvestro in Monte is a small sanctuary dedicated to the patron saint of domestic animals. It was built in the early Middle Ages in place of a pre-Christian place of worship. It assumed its present configuration in 1440 and houses original 15th century frescoes by the Brissinese school.
