Massive Roman-style curtain walls enclose three large funnels. They are mass graves from the Buchenwald concentration camp, in which the SS had around 3,000 dead buried in the spring of 1945 (2,000 more in the adjacent grave fields). Many of them were Hungarian Jews who had been deported to Buchenwald via Auschwitz.
