    New Ruhrort tunnel
Location: Sandkuhle, side valley branching off to the north
Station 5. - Here we go up briefly to the left, following the sign "Sandkuhle No. 3". After 40 m you can still see a ping on the left. There the coal was extracted directly from the surface.

"Coal digging and mining were involved in this area very early, probably around the turn of the 18th century. Regular mining began after the middle of the 18th century. On June 23, 1769, Johann Mathias Spennemann and consorts assumed the Längenfeld Neu-Ruhrort. About There is no precise information about the award from this early period. However, operations began shortly after the expectation. The mining in this Längenfeld seems to have only been carried out very irregularly and only for a short time. There is evidence of operation in the years 1769 to 1878.
In 1921 the mining right in Neu-Ruhrort was leased by the Herkules VIII trade union from Remscheid-Lennep. At the time, the Hercules VIII union also owned the mines of the “Kleine Windmühle” union near Sprockhövel, “Schöne Aussicht”, “von Goeben” and “Ver. Emanuel ”at Witten. Operation began in 1920 through the second old tunnel in the Finefrau seam, the mouth of which was 107 m above sea level. A ton-long shaft was sunk, the bottom of which was at a depth of 20 m. In 1921, 3,194 tons of coal were mined up to August 1st with a workforce of 27. Another barrel with a length of tonnes was "in the process of being sunk". In May 1921, coal production was postponed "because of the construction of a briquette factory". The workforce was given as 40 men. After the shutdown, on September 1, 1921, the rightful owner came to the Robert union. In 1943 a new union was founded under the name "Neuruhrort" (Table 8).
Traces of old mining in this area are also preserved old coal driving routes, which the miners used to transport their extracted coal. As a result of the load from horse-drawn vehicles and erosion, these paths formed into hollow paths that were often heavily muddy. The driver ran along the upper, dry edge of the path, which has long since been overgrown by strong trees from the surrounding forest. "
