A single-track bridge was opened at this location in 1874 for the Essen-Überruhr – Hagen-Vorhalle railway line of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company from Altendorf (Ruhr) station, now Burgaltendorf, and Bochum-Dahlhausen. It was expanded to double track in 1927. The bridge was partially destroyed during World War II, and one track was not repaired until 1951. Following the temporary closure of the line and the removal of the tracks in 1991, the bridge is no longer used by the railway.
