In what is now the district of Kettwig vor der Brücke (formerly Laupendahl), there were already Jewish residents 250 years ago. Their synagogue went up in flames during the Kristallnacht pogrom of 1938, and in 1942, the last Jews were deported to Theresienstadt and Izbica. Today, there is no longer a Jewish community in Kettwig.
This quiet memorial reminds us that there was also a Jewish community in Kettwig before it fell victim to the Nazi regime.
