About Mosmas

    1. Mosmas

On the 13th day of our journey, two extraordinary events coincide:

      1. I have symptoms of a cold, test positive for Covid, voluntarily go to the ship's doctor and am condemned to isolation in the cabin for the rest of the voyage.

      2. The drive failure of the ship that occurred 2 days ago turns out to be

On our sea voyage to the North Cape, I occasionally do my rounds on the open deck 5. This not only keeps me moving, but also allows me to enjoy unforgettable views of the wintry arctic landscape. I have attached photos from different regions of the Arctic.

    1. Actually, we should have reached Reine today at the southern end of the Lofoten, alone - we are stranded in Harstad with a drive failure and drop anchor there.

The expedition team quickly comes up with a program for this unplanned (and incalculably long) stay; Unfortunately, the hikes offered are booked

    1. Tromsø is called the "Capital of the Arctic"; for our captain (who is from Tromsø) it is the most beautiful city in the world.

We use the stay for an extensive tour of the city. In addition to the numerous historic wooden houses that are pretty to look at, there are - as in every larger city - also ugly

    1. After our ship has docked in the port of Honningsvåg, a bus takes us through the beautiful arctic landscape to the North Cape. Again we are outrageously (but of course deservedly) lucky with the weather: while the road had to be closed a few days ago due to snow drifts, it is passable today and the magical

    1. Where does the Arctic begin? For the sake of simplicity, let's agree on this: in the Arctic Circle.

We are expected to reach the Arctic Circle around 7pm, so I make my way to deck 5 in time to cross it on foot on a walk around the ship. Soon we pass the Arctic Circle Monument on Vikingen Island, a globe
