The Holocaust Memorial or Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the official name, was officially opened on 10.05.2000. It consists of 2711 steles, which were wavy installed on a 19,000 square meter field in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate. The design is by New York architect Peter Eisenmann. An exhibition in four theme rooms documents the persecution and extermination of European Jews in the "Place of Information" located below the field of stelae.
