Today we went on a sightseeing tour with the fullys, if possible on paths that we have not yet ridden. Not easy. For this we have picked out a few historical points that had to be approached. For example the house at Dahlemer Ehrenbergstrasse 33, where Albert Einstein lived and worked in 1914. In 1936, Willi Brandt lived for three months as an alleged student Gunnar Gaasland in a pension at Kurfürstendamm 20, right next to the well-known Café Kranzler, in order to maintain contacts with the now illegal SAP and the anti-fascist resistance in Berlin. Then we visited the place where the body of Rosa Luxemburg was thrown into the Landwehr Canal by her murderers. The last stop on our tour was the Moabit Historical Park. It is located within the walls of the former Moabit cell prison, built in 1840 as a particularly modern prison, as there were individual cells instead of the common cells that were common at the time. Among its prominent inmates were Klaus Bonhoeffer (resistance fighter), Wilhelm Dieckmann (co-conspirator of the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944), Erich Honecker (Dec. 1935-1937), Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt, who later became “Captain von Köpenick” for forgery of Postal Orders (1866-1869). Also Berthold Wehmeyer, the only criminal who was sentenced to death in West Berlin and executed on May 11, 1949.Interesting buildings on the edge of our today's bike tour are also to be mentioned on the Schlangenbader Straße motorway development and the Birger-Forell-Grundschule. The first is a residential complex that was built between 1976 and 1980 in the Steglitz district above the city motorway. Today's primary school in Wilmerdorfer Koblenzer Straße was built in 1907 as a community dual school for girls and boys and has separate entrances for boys and girls. In 1963 it was named after Birger Forell, who, as the Swedish parish priest in Berlin, helped prisoners of war, refugees and those persecuted by the Nazi regime. After this historical tour, there was a refreshment at the Papa Africa stand at the weekly market on Herrfurthplatz. Very tasty, very friendly, highly recommended.
