“On October 21, 1634 three enemy companies of Croatian soldiers attacked the town of Geithain, plundered it and kidnapped Johannes Wermann, the son of the citizen and baker Hans Wermann, who died blissfully on December 31st in Greslitz, Bohemia. He is buried there, his father himself stood by his grave. As an eternal memory of this school, he deposited 50 guilders with the city council in order to provide the schoolboys with books and writing paper for the end-of-year examination every year from the interest.
