The Harkorthaus is a half-timbered house with a slate roof, built around 1700, which was owned by the patrician and entrepreneurial Harkort family. The most famous member of the family, Friedrich Harkort, lived in the now listed building for a time in the 1850s. It remained in the family's possession until 1922 and in 1926 became the property of the city of Wetter, which established a memorial to the "Father of the Ruhr" there. The house was then officially named the Harkorthaus. After a brief period as a youth hostel, the Harkorthaus now houses the city archives.
