Ursern Valley Museum, Andermatt
The Ursern Valley Museum is one of the most beautiful patrician buildings in the Ursern Valley. It was built in 1786 as a residential and commercial building by the later valley mayor Franz Dominik Nager and is said to have served as the headquarters of the Russian general Suworow on September 24th/25th, 1799. After a thorough renovation, the Ursern Valley Museum was opened in 1991. The museum has various permanent exhibitions. These include living culture around 1780/1800, the valley and cultural history, tourism, the military, alpine farming, alpine animals, pack animals, a natural history cabinet and the career of the skiing legend Bernhard Russi. Temporary exhibitions are also presented in the basement.
