The classicist bathhouse I, inaugurated in 1857, was designed by Carl Ferdinand Busse. Busse himself came to Bad Oeynhausen to choose a suitable location for construction. A total of 76 bathroom cells were located in the separate wings for men and women. Built at the behest of the Prussian king, he also came to the opening of the bathhouse. Especially since he contributed the not small sum of 30,000 thalers from his private assets for the construction.

The bathhouse is worth a visit: artistic mosaic floors, a dome decorated with a frieze and golden coffers on a red background and Italian landscape paintings await visitors. It is not for nothing that the building is repeatedly referred to as a prototype of a bathhouse due to its successful combination of beauty and practical interior design.
