Colon Sültemeyer is an important historical figure in Bad Oeynhausen. He laid the foundation for the establishment of the Bad Oeynhausen state spa with the traces of salt he discovered on his pigs.
This bronze sculpture is by Horst Schneider.

Colon Sültemeyer is the legendary founding figure of the spa town of Bad Oeynhausen. A life-size bronze sculpture in the central garden between the Haus des Gastes (Guest House), the Wandelhalle (promenade hall), and the Theater im Park (Theater in the Park) is dedicated to him. It was created in 2013 by the Bad Salzuflen/Bonn stuccoist and sculptor Horst Schneider (1925-2020). It is very popular with locals and visitors alike because one can sit right next to it on the bench, practically embraced by Colon Sültemeyer. According to legend, the Colon (farmer) discovered the first salt spring of what would later become the spa town when he noticed a distinctive salt crust on the fur of his pigs. And indeed, the first brine spring had been bubbling up on the very spot where the pigs were said to have wallowed since 1745: on the grounds of the Sültemeyer farm (Hof "Meyer by der Sölte"). Further sources followed until 1772 when the "Neusalzwerk bei Rehme" saltworks opened, the historical predecessor (until 1848) of Bad Oeynhausen.
