Magdalena Pauli Memorial

The Magdalene Pauli monument is located below the Villa Lesmona. The bronze bust stands on a natural stone base and was created by the sculptor Claus Homfeld.
As the daughter of a successful Bremen merchant family, Magdalene Pauli (née Melchers) grew up in extremely wealthy circumstances. She was 17 years old when she fell in love with her cousin from London in the summer of 1893. Magdalene recorded the doomed love story in her letters to her closest friend Bertha. These are the letters that are published 55 years later with the title “Summer in Lesmona” as a letter novel under the pseudonym “Marga Berck”. In 1986 the work was finally filmed with Katja Riemann in the lead role. And at the location of the novel - in Knoops Park - the popular open-air classic "Summer in Lesmona" has been commemorating that true love story for more than 20 years.

Magdalena Pauli wrote the book "Summer in Lesmona" under the name Marga Beck. The book was made into a six-part television series in 1987. Katja Riemann plays the main role.
