In the center of the village there is a striking beautiful church with old architecture
February 20, 2025
The high choir tower of the Protestant church, with its striking dark red, is the defining feature of Hoheneiche. It dates from the first half of the 14th century. The core of the nave is Romanesque and dates back to the 12th century. The half-timbering is from 1562. This church was also likely to have been a fortified church in the past, as the embrasures in the tower indicate. In the north wall is the bricked-up high medieval entrance, the so-called Elisabeth portal. The Elisabeth Path between Eisenach and Marburg, inaugurated in 2007, leads along the church. It is marked with the sign of the Elisabeth Path and also with the shell of the Way of St. James.

This striking church is located in the town center. A look inside, at the artistic ceiling painting and the colored altar window, is particularly worthwhile.
