It stands, the tower.
High on the vineyard's ridge,
one can gaze far into the distance.
It is called the Berlin Tower.
Why? You hear it in town and country.
Just look east and at Berlin, the great city,
cut right through it.
It is not called "Berlin" for those
who have long since fled;
nor for those who rake in money from the division
and then disappear into the Western world.
It is called the Berlin Tower only for those
who have withstood every storm,
who, despite danger, blockades, and riots,
stand firmly in their place.

Hiking
Ascent from the trail parking lot in Datterode. Very nice views. Ascent to the Berliner Turm moderate, but also directly possible. Tower on the inside spiral staircase by all means dare. Fantastic panorama compensates for the effort.
