A little insider tip! This pier is a little out of the way, but the great view makes it a great place to take a break. There is even a bench. You drive or walk past the NOK lock on the right. This takes you to the Elbe and from there you have an impressive view of the large Elbe estuary with the even larger ships. They don't fit through the lock either and are on their way to Hamburg or the North Sea.

Here you have a good view of the incoming and outgoing ships from the Elbe into the lock.

Nice view of the ships that want to use the NOK and the big pots that call at Hamburg.

From the sea side, backboard (left) it goes into the NOK, control board (right) down the Elbe to Hamburg.

Pier 4 - has been the beacon of the north pier since 1911 and serves as the Elbe-side boundary to the large lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttelkoog.

Mole 4 still shows the way for shipping through the lock with the beacon in the mole head.

The entrances from the Elbe to the small and large locks are each bordered by two moles. At their ends, the pier heads, there are four smaller lighthouses, the so-called pier lights.

The red sector of the lighthouse on the Elbe dike marks the left side of the entrance to the new outer harbour. The white sector is a warning sector. The mole head is illuminated in the dark. In the event of fog, floodlights can be switched on. In 2009, the freighter "Weser Stahl" suffered an accident while turning into the outer harbor, the damage of which is still visible today. The pier head was then closed to the public.

After completion of the 5th lock chamber there will be three more moles at the locations of the current moles 1, 2 and 4. The historic pier light 2 will then be repositioned on the current pier 4, which will then become pier 3.

Great vantage point on the North Baltic Sea Canal.

Good place to take a break right on the North Baltic Sea Canal. Here you have the opportunity to watch the really big pots, and there are also very nice bike paths. Great place for a break.

Although you can't quite get to the beacon, it's still worth the small detour
