If you follow the Levada dos Tornos from Camacha, you will pass through three tunnels that take the levada through the mountain. The first two must be crossed, the third can be avoided, but I recommend visiting all three of the tunnels, which are worth seeing.
A flashlight is essential!

The Levada dos Tornos runs almost level along the southern coast, connecting shady forest sections with open views of Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, you'll stroll past eucalyptus trees, gardens, and small houses, always accompanied by the gentle murmur of the water in the canal. The long but easily walkable path is ideal for a leisurely hike, though a few narrow or exposed sections require some attention and sure footing.
