    Haydn Fountain Hainburg
The former city fountain was certainly built at the beginning of the 17th century. built. Shape, stonemason's mark and work numbers prove this. The central column with a beautifully crafted vase and four water-spouting heads rises from the water basin. The coats of arms of Vienna and Hainburg adorn the base, and plaques are attached to the other sides: "In Memory of Joseph Haydn" and "The City of Hainburg". The fountain, which originally stood on the main street (next to today's lane junction with the main square), was removed in 1888 after the completion of the Teichtal water pipeline and a cast-iron fountain was built in its place. In 1932, on the occasion of the great Haydn Festival, the old fountain was re-erected and called the "Haydn Fountain". In the course of the redesign of the main square, the Haydn fountain was moved to the middle of the square in 1984, where it is shown to its best advantage.

The Haydn Fountain was built in the early 17th century in late Renaissance style. It is octagonal in shape, four gargoyles are crowned with an obelisk. The coats of arms of Hainburg and Vienna are depicted above the gargoyles.

Joseph Haydn was born near Hainburg, in Rohrau, and went to school in Hainburg. This is where his musical talent was discovered, which is why Hainburg is also known as "Haydnstadt".
