    Franciscan monastery, Hainburg

It was built between 1677 and 1682 and destroyed by the Ottomans in 1683. Rebuilt in 1684 and taken over by the tobacco factory in 1787 after the Josephine monastery was dissolved. Conversion to apartments from 2017.

      Austria Tobacco Hainburg 1723 - 2011

Austria Tabak GmbH is the legal successor to the formerly listed Austria Tabak AG, whose origins as a public limited company go back to 1939 (Austria Tabakwerke AG) and to which the Österreichische Tabakregie established under Joseph II go back.

In the course of 2005, the cigarette factory in Schwaz was closed and production was relocated to Linz and Hainburg on the Danube. The cigar factory in Fürstenfeld, founded in 1796 and at the time the oldest in the world, was also closed. Cigar production was moved to Wales. The remaining plants in Linz and Hainburg were modernized. Cigarette production rose from 25.4 billion units in 2000 to 36.4 billion units in 2005. In Hainburg, Österreichische Tabakfilter GmbH produced filters for Austria and for export. The Linz tobacco factory building complex, which was built between 1928 and 1935 and is partially listed, was sold to the City of Linz.

Finally, at the end of 2011, the last Austrian cigarette production facility in Hainburg, which produced 40% for the domestic market, was closed. And that despite the fact that in 2007 they were still "clearly committed to production in Austria" and around 40 million euros were invested in the plant. 240 employees in Hainburg lost their jobs, as did 80 employees at the headquarters in Vienna who supported production.

Hainburg (Lower Austria) - from 1723 tobacco factory, tobacco laboratory, largest factory (but from 1935: Linz), 2011 closed, (also) cigars - 3 buildings, 2 of them listed, hotel, apartments, depot, culture factory, March-August (also December ?) 2013 demolition of parts – from 2015 shopping center Galleria Danubia
