Located directly on the market square with hustle and bustle and historical buildings. Papal basilica minor with interesting stone carvings and pictorial panels on the outer wall.

It is made in the Gothic style. A view from the church tower (can only be climbed on special occasions) allows a wonderful view over Amberg.

The plan to replace the Romanesque building with a Gothic hall church can be traced back to the second half of the 14th century. However, their construction did not begin until 1421 on the choir, whose vaulting began in 1452. After the previous church had been demolished, the nave was erected in 1456; In 1483 work was carried out on the vaulting of the last yoke. In 1509 the tower was completed up to the landing above the bell step. In the years 1869 to 1874, the baroque furnishings were replaced by a neo-Gothic one.

With a length of 72 m, a width of 28 m and a ridge height of around 40 m, the Martinskirche is the largest hall church in Northern Bavaria. A special feature that can only be found in the area of the Upper Saxon hall churches is the closure of the chapel wreath created between the buttresses drawn inwards by a circumferential gallery.
