From 1818 to 1837, Kleinlosnitz formed the district municipality of Kleinlosnitz together with the villages of Großlosnitz, Lösten, Mussen, Mechlenreuth, Schnackenhof and Schweinsbach. The place belonged to the district office and later district of Münchberg. On July 1, 1972, the municipality was incorporated into the market town of Zell.
Kleinlosnitz is particularly well known for the Upper Franconian farm museum.
