The 877 meter high Große Waldstein is a mountain in the northern Fichtelgebirgs horseshoe. In the summit area is mixed forest with old beeches and mighty rock towers, the whole area is a nature reserve - over 20 hectares. Marked trails lead from all directions to the mountain, from Weißenstadt or Sparneck, public roads lead to the summit area, where the Fichtelgebirgsverein's accommodation house, the Waldsteinhaus, stands and where you can take a walk through the interesting summit area.

Very interesting area on the summit plateau of the Great Waldstein (877 m above sea level) in the Fichtelgebirge. There is a very interesting tour around the Great Waldstein, the old castle grounds and rock formations are explained with signs and the ability to load everything via QR code on the phone, great explained. In addition to the spectacular Bärenfang and the natural spectacle stage, there is the possibility for the hiker to stop at the Waldsteinhaus.

The eponymous "bowl" was a natural weathering trough that was removed because of its foul odor when King Maximilian II announced his visit in 1851 and also enjoyed the view from there into the Fichtelgebirge horseshoe and the Münchberg valley wanted.
After the edges were chiseled and the rest of the hollow was filled, a small house with colorful glass windows was built on the rock. However, the king postponed his visit and never made up for it ...

The Großer Waldstein in the Fichtelgebirge has a wow effect for me, the mighty rock formations only amaze you, the summit plateau can be reached safely, you can enjoy beautiful views in all directions. Since there is a hiking car park directly below, it is a good starting point for many hikes.

The absolute highlight of the region, definitely have a look. You have beautiful views in all directions. However, the climb is not without. The steps are sometimes very steep - but the climb will be worth it

The Waldstein was discovered as a recreation area as early as 1800. He was popular for looking at home from high above, for reflecting and for acting.
