The nature trail leads along the large open spaces, which are called poor grasslands because of their sparse vegetation. Lean grassland sites on serpentinite rock are a botanical rarity in Germany and are therefore particularly protected.
The southern slope was heavily cleared and grazed. As a result of the exemption, light-requiring plant species such as heather and snow heath, the rare dwarf boxwood and arnica are blooming again on the Haidberg.
