Tips
  • The Three Brothers Rocks on Rudolfstein are an impressive demonstration of the power of nature. Through weathering, the granite masses have been finely honed over millennia and are now forming a work of art that often reminds of stacked mattresses. So get out of bed and marvel at mattress weathering in reality.

  • Here you are standing 285 million years ago of the earth's history. The idiosyncratic shape was created as follows: Hot, liquid magma solidified beneath the surface of the earth. The resulting rock was so pressurized from the earth's crust that longitudinal joints formed. Cross joints were then added by erosion.

The first two brothers are particularly impressive, the third is a bit hidden. Some of the towers can be climbed.

  • The weathering of wool sacks is a special manifestation of the weathering of rocks. Through the interaction of physical and chemical processes, the weathering of wool sacks results in rock blocks with rounded edges, which are stacked on top of one another like pillows, mattresses or wool sacks. The figurative term “wool sack” is derived from coarse sacks filled with wool, which were historically used both as sleeping pads and for transporting wool.

  • The 3 free-standing tiles are worth a detour. Stacked in the same way as the Rudolfstein, but a little different again.

  • Beautiful lap to run and marvel at how great the high rocks are before there are some high rocks 🪨 until you get to the Three Brothers you follow the Felsenweg. We then had to hurry up quite a bit when heavy rain 🌧 came our way. So on the last section there is no longer a shelter option. We just made it to the car. Phew... perfect.

  • Interesting rock formation, is not one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria for nothing. Information board and a seating area are located directly next to the "Three Brothers".

  • The Three Brothers Rocks on Rudolfstein represent an imposing rock ensemble, which was created in the Erdneuzeit of weathering and erosion. Due to the horizontal ventilation of the granite rock, the characteristic forms of mattress weathering have evolved in an impressive way. According to legend, the rocks are three fossilized noble brothers who were petrified here by fleeing robber barons from a evil spirit
