Friedberg Castle was probably founded by Kuno von Münzenberg between 1171-1180 on behalf of Emperor Barbarossa. The oldest surviving document attesting to the castle dates back to 1216. The striking castle hill with a view of the flat Wetterau has been inhabited for a long time.
