Leiper Trail (Spreewald)

In winter, when there is snow, it is simply wonderful to hike here. When the canals are frozen over, you can skate there too.

One of the most beautiful paths in the Spreewald

This gravel cycle road, newly created in recent years, has become very unfriendly to hikers. Five bridges have been converted to be bicycle-friendly within the last two years, over the E Canal, over the Semisch, over the Old Semisch, over the Bancerowa and over the Uska Luke. All five were typical wooden Spreewald bridges with steps and cycle channels. In addition, almost all metal benches on the Leiper Weg were removed; only two metal benches remain. Before, there were one or two benches about every hundred meters… all gone. Only the new wooden rest area at the Uska Luke still invites you to linger. And the bicycle route is also being used to the full, with cyclists coming by almost every second at the weekend. For hikers, the idyll is over here. You should only hike on the Leiper Weg during the week when it is not so crowded, or avoid the path if possible.
