After the Second World War, the city council of Ghent decided to build the social residential area Malem as a memorial to the victims of both world wars.
The street names have a link to facts and locations from both world wars. So also the Halenpad:
The trail refers to the Battle of Halen in 1914, during which Belgian troops won a small victory over the German invasion army.
It is nice to walk along the water here.
